Colors interact and suggest the movement of a merry-go-round. Measuring 54" wide by 54"high by 12" deep, "Carousel" has a highly textured surface. The panels are fabricated of glass using the technique of pate de verre: crushed glass in a spectrum of colors is pressed into a prepared glass mold made of plaster and fine sand. The mold is heated in a kiln until the glass just melts. The result is a multicolored, multilayered kaleidoscope of textures and movement. "Carousel" came to life on a weekend trip to Lake Michigan last year. Stopping in St. Joe, Janet discovered the restored carousel at Silver Beach and was absolutely enthralled. Riding one of those gloriously carved animals, she was seven again, feeling the joy of a small child. It was a precious moment. finding an avenue to feelings usually buried. Janet's "Carousel" will be displayed at ArtPrize this year, at the Gerald R. Ford Museum, September 20 - October 8.
